Chess is a game of patience and strategy, but is also a sneaky game of fooling your opponent in to a bad move. It is one of the oldest known games. It was thought it came to Western Europe and Russia by the 9th century and by the year 1000, it had reached Europe. In 1851, the first modern chess tournament took place in London and was won by a German player called Adolf Anderssen, who was praised as the leading chess master. He had an energetic attacking style although it was later regarded shallow
Nowadays, some people think that chess is a boring game to watch, but they do not realize how complicated, brain testing and strategic it really is. Just like other strategy games like Partypoker; and lateral thinking puzzles, they require patience, a lot of thinking and practice.
Millions of people worldwide play Chess, it is one of the most popular past times in the world. You can play it anywhere, whether it is at home, at a chess club or on the internet. There are two main varieties of chess, they are Western Chess and International Chess. Both of which have different rules, pieces, and different boards.
There are three main phases to a game of chess; the development, middle-game and the the end-game.
The opening of the game mainly consists of the two players moving their smaller pieces first and keeping the King and Queen safe. The openings are well thought over and can last up to twenty five or thirty moves or more. Moves are chosen with offensive or defensive pieces, depending on the threat posed. The middle-game changes with every round, but mainly consists of keeping the King safe. Surrounding pieces remain on the board to protect the King and the pawns can be promoted in certain circumstances. Much computer theory and analysis nowadays helps players progress in the end-game due to reduced complexity.
