Breakers’ Jones Named NBL’s Sixth Man
The National Basketball League (NBL) has announced that New Zealand Breakers veteran Phill Jones has won the ‘Accor’ Best Sixth Man for 2008/09. Jones, who came third in voting for the same award last year, took out the honours as the NBL’s best-off-the-bench this season after polling 56 votes. He comfortably beat out Wollongong’s Anthony Petrie in second (36) and Isiah Victor of Perth in third (29). ..read more..

Penny wins NBL MVP
New Zealand Breakers star shooting guard Kirk Penney has been named the winner of the Andrew Gaze Trophy as the National Basketball League’s Most Valuable Player for the 2008/09 season, becoming the first New Zealander ever to win the NBL’s top award.
